Thread Project began with a bold idea: to rethink the wholesale apparel model and give decorators a better canvas to work with.

At a stage where ambition ran ahead of structure, Beyond Usual stepped in to shape the business model, brand story, and launch strategy. By building both narrative and systems for growth, we helped turn an innovative concept into a scalable company gathering real momentum.

Furf Petgear started as a playful idea with serious potential. Beyond Usual transformed it into a complete brand – crafting the business model, rollout strategy, and sales systems, while guiding design and packaging.

In just six months, the concept leapt from sketchpad to more than 130 stores across New Zealand and Australia. It’s a story of entrepreneurial speed, where creativity and execution ran side by side.

Lightforce Solar came to us as a small company with just a handful of employees, standing at the edge of possibility.

Over the next two years, Beyond Usual worked alongside them – shaping brand positioning, guiding strategy, and building the marketing and pitch tools needed to accelerate growth. In that time, Lightforce expanded to a team of more than one hundred, a carbon zero–certified company rising as a leader in New Zealand’s renewable energy sector.

Beyond Soap was co-founded by Josh and Scott from Beyond Usual, together with Charlene Fitisemanu.

With the support of the Beyond Usual team, the brand was created and launched as the only subscription hand, body, and shampoo care system on the market. By replacing liquid bottles with bar-based packs, Beyond Soap makes sustainability simple and scalable—already saving more than 85,000 plastic bottles and counting.

When Lightforce founder Luke Nutting set out to create Wallace, a new kind of real estate company, he turned again to Beyond Usual.

We reworked the brand from the ground up, crafting a differentiated positioning built on the balance of IQ and EQ – hard data paired with human insight into buyer psychology. This approach set Wallace apart, giving it a clear market advantage anchored not in slogans but in delivering real results.

Blunt Umbrellas is now a global name, but in its early years the path was far from certain.

Scott and Josh were two-thirds of the driving force behind the brand – building the systems, forging collaborations with high-profile New Zealanders and Australians, and opening doors into international markets. By the time Scott stepped away, Blunt was established in 23 countries, a design-led business scaled onto the world stage.

With Franklin Local Board, Beyond Usual partnered alongside economic development broker Christina Rogstad to reframe how the region tells its story.

From place identity and the “Find Your Franklin” campaign through to a regional magazine, website, and asset library, we built the foundations of a cohesive brand. More than promotion, this work created an economic development platform – strengthening Franklin’s presence, attracting opportunity, and giving its communities a voice in their own growth.

Global Ventures has been a long-standing partner of Beyond Usual, with our work spanning strategy, product development, and brand creation.

Together we have developed new brands designed for export, helping to open international markets and extend the company’s reach. From shaping ideas into products to positioning them abroad, our role has been to guide Global Ventures’ growth with a blend of strategy and creativity that translates globally.
